Companies are beginning to show interest in creating podcasts, and as a result a whole new consulting business has emerged among audio professionals. At the 2006 Podcast and Portable Media Expo, Kristopher Smith from Palegroove Studios details how he got started with his podcasting consultancy business and answers questions on how to get your own business up and running.
For Smith making money through his podcast was simply not an option, but why let those valuable production skills and experience go to waste? As many companies are only just starting to show interest in podcasting they usually lack the on-site skills to start and produce a successful podcast. It's therefore a great, but also tricky time to get started with helping companies as a podcasting consultant.
There are ways to make your client relations go more smoothly, from adjusting your terminology, drafting proper proposals, and working at a level that they can understand. Smith goes over the crucial aspects of organizing yourself and setting proper goals and financial milestones for your business. In this emerging business it's easy to be overwhelmed by the "they don't need me" feeling, but there's ways to use this to your advantage.
